The Mortgage Cramdown – A Very Bad Idea For Homeowners

by Bob Schwartz

Rep. Louie Gohmert speaks out against the mortgage cramdown, which would allow judges to rewrite home mortgages during bankruptcy. This proposal would force the 92 percent of responsible homeowners to subsidize the mistakes of irresponsible borrowers and lenders.

At the very least, mortgage lenders will have to add additional fees to all new mortgages to cover for the loses this legislation will cause.

  1. To all the prudent homebuyers of the world: those who are not underwater on their loans, those who have no mortgage, and all the renters, DO NOT ACQUIESCE TO THIS WITHOUT PROTEST! Your money is about to be taken to bail out those who foolishly purchased housing using option-ARMS, no-doc loans, ridiculous teaser rates, and what-not. The people making these decisions are your elected representatives. Make sure you send them a message: fire these traitors in the next election.

  2. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD that we are going to bail out homeowners who WILLINGLY and GREEDILY bought a house they couldn’t afford. I bought a $1M house and knew I was in over my head! So, I fortunately sold it before the market tanked.

I paid my home off in april 96k to get rid of my house payment. I am still glad that I did. The ole saying “I’m from the government, and I am here to help you”…….you better look out, there is a kicker in there somewhere.
