Housing Market Foundation Still Shaky

by Bob Schwartz

Housing Market

Obviously, with the severity of our housing collapse a snap-back recovery is just a fantasy. As I’ve said before, the first step to any real housing recovery, is housing market stability and base building.

This video by Standard & Poor’s reviews and analyzes the current trends in the housing market. Standard & Poor’s Deputy Chief Economist Beth Ann Bovino notes that January data for U.S. existing home sales and housing starts continue to show a recovery, though still at a modest pace. And, apparently, the government isn’t willing to let this recovery burn out, proposing several plans designed to kick it into a higher gear. But don’t bet on a speedy recovery just yet. Getting some of those proposals through Congress won’t be easy.

Housing Market Recovery

The latest housing statistics seem to indicate that my 2012 San Diego real estate market forecast is right on track. For San Diego homeowners I think the first signs of a true housing market recovery will have to wait for the fourth quarter.
