As of yesterday, the stock value of these two housing mortgage giants hit the lowest levels in nearly two decades.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are the largest source of funding for home mortgages in the U.S..   1. At the start of this debacle I thought the bankers had found a cheap and dirty way to get into the real estate business. That is: take the extra cash from the unwashed, leave them with debt and rent them the house they thought they were buying.   2. We are in a deflationary death spiral which will not end until the mountain of debt that has fueled years of phony profits is unwound. It will be very unpleasant and there is nothing that perma-bulls can say to stop it. San Diego and Las Vegas have much in common!
