Los Angeles makes it difficult to evict an Airbnb guest.

It’s true that Los Angeles has tenant protections that can make evicting an Airbnb guest more difficult than in other areas. Here are some key factors:

This applies to tenants who have stayed for over 30 days, which can include some long-term Airbnb stays.
  • Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO): This applies to some rental units in Los Angeles and limits the amount a landlord can increase rent and restricts evictions without specific legal cause. While not specifically focused on Airbnb, it can be relevant depending on the specific rental unit and guest stay duration.

These laws were created to protect tenants from unfair evictions, but they can also create challenges for homeowners who want to reclaim their property from an unwanted guest.

Here are some high-profile examples that illustrate the complexities:
