My understanding of this is that the homes are not attached at a single wall but there’s an exterior wall and an interior wall and the interior walls are separated by an airspace. Sure, there might be a more technically appropriate explanation but I can tell you having lived in both three bedroom model homes here in the Belair community of Mission Pacific, I have never actually heard my attached neighbor! Actually, just like a single-family detached home, I never even knew I had an attached neighbor except talking with them over the backyard fence.
