The S&P/Case-Shiller index for January was just released today.

Jamul California home for saleThe good news, at least for San Diego home sellers, was that  for January 2014,San Diego had the most improved year-over-year home appreciation!

Yes, for January 2014 the case Shiller index showed that San Diego’s residential real estate market improved by an amazing 19.4%!

Of the 20 cities tracked by the case Shiller index, in January just seven cities showed a positive monthly uptick. The seven cities were: Las Vegas, Miami, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Tampa and Washington.

David M. Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices said “Although most analysts do not expect the same rapid increases we saw last year, the consensus is for moderating gains. Existing-home sales declined slightly in February and are at their lowest level since July 2012.”

Personally, I agree with Mr. Blitzer on the Outlook for San Diego real estate appreciation in 2014. Here in San Diego. Wages have been relatively flat, while home mortgage interest rates have been creeping upward.
